Rakkhiththa Kanda Rajamaha Viharaya.
The Rakkhiththa Kanda raja maha viharaya is a Buddhist cave temple where you can visit Kandya era paintings including one of the British royal coat of arms. The villagers call the temple, “Kande Viharaya”. This ancient temple is situated between Ella and Karadagolla city. The historical significance of this temple is the presence of an ancient inscription consisting the “Brahmana” letters which witnesses about the past information about the presence of Buddhists monks in this temple. Currently this temple attracts the hearts of both local and foreign travellers as the temple situated an environment surrounded by a large rock.
