It is one of the top things to do in Nilaveli Beach because of this, as well as a stunning coral reef. As you may expect, snorkeling is the island’s most popular activity. TRAVEL TO KANDY
Kandy is a city which is located in the central province and it is called as the 2nd capital of Sri Lanka. Kandy has a religious value, historical importance as well as natural beauty. And also, it has a calmful climate when comparing the lower country. Let consider the important things to do around Kandy.
Visit Temple of the Tooth Relic
The temple was constructed between 1867 and 1707 expressly to venerate this sacred relic, and it has long been a popular tourist destination for both Sri Lankans and foreign visitors. In fact, most Sri Lankans think that they must pay respect to the toothy treasure at least once in their lifetimes. Apart from the religious importance, The structures are built according to Kandyan style and that reason tends to attract more tourists to this place.
Visit the historic three temple loop
Three of these temples, Gadaladeniya Viharaya, Embekke, and Lankathilaka, make up the aptly titled “three temple loop,” which serves as a living legacy of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist tradition and workmanship.
Gadaladeniya Viharaya
Gadaladeniya Viharaya, made of stone on a rock cliff in the 14th century, houses gilded, seated Buddha images. The Banyan tree, as well as ponds built on the rock face, are located in the center of the temple.
We were able to chat with the temple manager during our tour, who informed us all about the temple’s rich history. If you wish to acquire any Sri Lankan paintings, he’s also a really accomplished artist.
Embekke Devalaya
The Hindu deity Mahasen is honored in Embekke Devalaya, which was erected in the 14th century by King Vikramabahu III. The temples are known for their carved wooden pillars depicting humans and animals, as well as its three main portions, the ‘Sanctum of Garagha,’ the ‘Dancing Hall,’ and the ‘Drummers’ Hall,’ which include the best carvings.
Lankathilaka
Lankathilaka Vihara is the final and, in our opinion, a most spectacular temple in outer Kandy. This 14th-century temple, perched on a rocky ledge, is partly Buddhist, half Hindu, and has a number of historically significant relics, including a seated Buddha image, rock-face inscriptions in Sinhala and Tamil, and stone Elephant figurines. Lankathilaka is a temple set amongst trees, rice fields, and a tiny community that we encourage you to visit.
Walking around the Kandy Lake
The Kandy Lake, located in the middle of Kandy, is surprisingly tranquil despite the busy road that swirls around it, and serves as a backdrop to many of the city’s prominent attractions, including the Temple of the Tooth Relic and the Udawattakele Forest Reserve. Sri Wickrama Rajasinha, the final King of the kingdom of Kandy, built the artificial lake in 1807 to provide a canal to the other side of the valley. However, things did not proceed as planned. When the indigenous tribes objected to the labor, the king ordered that they be staked to death. The center island was utilized for Sri Wickrama Rajasinha’s personal harem after it was completed.
Visit Peradeniya Botanica Garden
The Royal Botanic Gardens of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka’s largest and most extensive, are among the nicest we’ve ever seen anywhere. Because these gardens were once designated solely for Kandyan royals to wander around before being changed into the Botanic Gardens in 1821 at the request of the reigning British, they feel opulent. Even commoners like us are now allowed to walk the grounds, which today cover 60 hectares and are home to over 10,000 trees. The gardens also have representative species from all across the tropical world, as well as Sri Lanka’s unique flora.
TRAVEL TO ELLA
Ella is a town in Uva Province’s Badulla District. The area boasts a diverse bio-diversity, with a wide range of vegetation and fauna. Because of its elevation, the town has a colder climate than the neighboring plains. The Ella Gap provides views of Sri Lanka’s southern plains. There are some nice things to do in Ella area too.
Hike Little Adam’s Peak
It’s not that Little Adam’s Peak is any less spectacular than the real Adam’s Peak; it’s just that it’s easier to reach! You can then hike along the ridgeline and explore once you’ve reached the summit. On Little Adam’s Peak, there are three peaks, the farthest of which takes around 30 minutes to climb. If you’re going with youngsters, I wouldn’t advocate trekking to the last peak for safety reasons. It becomes really tight and steep! Little Adams Peak is Ella’s most accessible walk, and it’s well worth a visit for the spectacular views!
Visit Nine Arch Bridge for Sunrise
The Nine Arch Bridge is arguably Ella’s most well-known attraction. This lovely bridge is bordered by tea farms and lush foliage. This construction is very attractive and has exceptional durability.
Although I’m sure practically everyone sees the Nine Arch Bridge during their vacation to Ella, I’m not sure how many people travel to see the dawn. Walking to the bridge is possible, and the closest viewpoint is 1.8 kilometers from Ella town center.
Visit Ravana Falls
This massive waterfall is quite breathtaking to behold. Ravana Falls is also one of the nearest waterfalls to Ella, making it highly accessible. There are often monkeys around the falls, and there are few juice bars and small businesses along the roadway near the falls. You can also trek to the top of Ravana Falls during the dry season to take in the breathtaking views from above. There was too much water for us to hike the trail during our visit.
Flying Ravana Zipline
The Flying Ravana Zipline is one of Ella’s newest attractions. It’s almost 500 meters long and travels at speeds of over 80 kilometers per hour. It’s a sure-fire way to get your heart pumping! There is also a dual zipline, so it is possible to race your companion to the bottom or simply sit back and enjoy the journey. The zipline, which is located at the bottom of Little Adam’s Peak, is a terrific activity to do in conjunction with the trek.
These are only five popular places to visit in Sri Lanka for you to have some relaxation for your busy lives.
